I got to go up to the Gettysburg area to hang out with a couple of my photo buddies/clients and do some shooting too New Years Eve eve and then New Years Eve day. Had to head home earlier than I wanted to have an awesome Crown Roast of Pork dinner so it was all good.
Gettysburg battle field is an amazing place to grok. It’s strange to be walking around taking photos in places where men fought pitched battles and died so long ago. I was up there one time and felt this electric wave of emotion pass through me. It was pretty intense. The scientist in me says bullcrap, but the chick I’m apparently turning into disagrees.
This is kind of typical of the monuments you see all over many Civil War battle fields. In the 1880s and 1890s many Veterans groups put these markers up showing where individual units were on the battlefield at specific dates and times, along with casualties, officers names, acts of heroism and so on. It's fascinating to see them so densely packed
I like the statue in the background too of an infantryman using his rifle as a club in the heat of battle.
This is quite the memorial. The plaques around the base have the names of all the Pennsylvania soldiers that served at Gettysburg. There are statues of the highest ranking officers and President Lincoln. I'm pretty sure you can climb up some stair ways and overlook the battlefield in there too.
