While in Tupelo, I had to try for a fun Holga photo of the Elvis mural. This kind of wall art is all over down south! This particular mural is maybe 15-20 feet tall? Something like that. It’s a block away from the Tupelo Hardware store that more or less looks the same as it did when Elvis got his first guitar there at 12 or 13 as I recall the story. Tupelo has Elvis stuff all over. Lots of guitars painted and displayed all around town. Other murals too.
Really great! Is this the whole mural or section?
That’s the top half. The rest of the mural goes down to his singing/dancing feet!
I just heard “If I Can Dream” on the radio while I was out. It had been a long time since I heard that song. And I remembered how much it meant to me as a kid. HUGE fan that I was. HUGE. Did I say huge? Hahaha. My mom met him and hung out with him after a concert in Denver. She has photos. I was mad at her ‘cuz she didn’t take me. And I could have played with Lisa Marie. Well, I am SO over that now. LOL. She went to Graceland and spent some time with his dad too. Got a tour of the grounds and the “back. Couldn’t take photos though. Thanks for sharing this with us Dave. It really rocks! 🙂
I’ve been to his birthplace and saw it from the outside. I have driven by Graceland at least a few times and never made time to go in. I didn’t think it was worth to me to spend around $40 to see as I recall the pricing.
